The owner of a southern grocery chain insists that putting a banner calling for a border wall on his coupon flyer does not make him a racist.
Mac’s Fresh Market, with locations across Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi, published a coupon mailer recently that included a line about building the border wall. Naturally, critics began attacking him right away over the flyer.
The flyer included a banner proclaiming: “Heaven has a wall, a gate and a strict immigration policy. Hell has open borders. Let that sink in.”
According to Fox News, some customers complained that the message on the flyer was offensive and unnecessary. Some even accused the owner of the chain, Reggy McDaniel, of being a racist.
But McDaniel is refusing to apologize:
Mac’s Fresh Market owner, Reggy McDaniel, told KALB the message was meant to share his faith with others.
“If I used a political message, and I’m very aware it’s political, to highlight Jesus Christ, then I’m guilty of it,” McDaniel said.
“That’s my meaning of the whole thing is are people prepared to go to heaven or are they not. I thought it was a perfect time because everybody is talking about the border, some people want it, some don’t want us to have one. The only thing I was shocked about was that it’s racist. I have never in my life been accused of being a racist, I’m 70 years old; I haven’t evolved into one.”
McDaniel also said it did not bother him that some people said they would boycott his stores if he keeps the message on his mailers.
“I appreciate them shopping with me, but this is America; they have the privilege of shopping where they want to,” McDaniel said.
McDaniel added that he plans to continue putting the message on his mailers despite the left-wing attackers.
Good for you, sir. Stick to your principles. Don’t let the braying, liberal mobs try to scare you from your ideals.
