The Portland city council has now banned urinals in the men’s room of its new administration building to make transgender people and those with gender issues feel better.
The city also reported that it was preparing to open “gender-neutral” bathrooms to “remove arbitrary barriers in our community.”
According to KGW channel 8, the cost of the remodel to taxpayers is $195,000,000.
In an email, Chief Administrative Officer Tom Rinehart told city employees, “We will continue to have gender-specific (male and female) multi-stall restrooms that are readily available to any employee that prefers to use one. But there will be no urinals in any restroom in the building.”
“I am convinced that this is the right way to ensure success as your employer, remove arbitrary barriers in our community, and provide leadership that is reflective of our shared value,” Rinehart added.
Plans seem to indicate that the city expects men and women to use the new “gender-neutral” bathrooms at the same time.
According to KGW “The building’s 1st, 3rd and 15th floors will have large multi-stall bathrooms that men and women will use together.”
Despite their supposed pride in the new bathrooms, the city would not spare a city employee to make any comments to the media.
Conservative talker Lars Larson finds the whole thing absurd, according to The Blaze.
“I think it’s ridiculous,” conservative talk show host Lars Larson said.
“First of all, I know that it already makes a lot of people uncomfortable,” Larson added. “Secondly, it’s gonna take up a lot more space, and third — anyone who’s ever been to any public event — have you seen the line at the ladies’ room? Do you see any line at the men’s room?”
