The leftist media won’t want to tell you about the huge victory that Donald Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo just won against the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The ICC just rejected a proposal by its own chief prosecutor to to open an investigation into whether American troops are committing war crimes in Afghanistan, the New York Sun reported.
The ICC crumbled in the face of stiff resistance from the Trump administration… the kind of pressure the ICC never saw under Obama or Clinton, or even any Bush, for that matter.
Pompeo even warned the ICC that if such an investigation were to be started, members of the ICC could be blocked from entering and doing business in the U.S.
The media was furious, of course.
As the Sun noted:
Such a hard line was met with what we called, in an editorial last month, “howls of outrage by the hard left.” Human Rights Watch called Mr. Pompeo’s position “thuggish.” The ICC itself insisted that the court was “independent” and that it would carry on with its work “undeterred.” Yet just last week, the Trump administration went ahead and revoked the visa for the ICC’s chief prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda.
But even in the face of a caterwauling press and the shock and outrage by leftists, Trump and Pompeo didn’t back down.
And so… the ICC backed down, instead!
But even as it backed down it credited the Trump administration for being so tough that the ICC would never be able to conduct the sort of kangaroo court investigation it would want.
The Sun added:
[The ICC] did also reference “the lack of cooperation that the Prosecutor has received.” Plus it said such cooperation “is likely to go scarcer should an investigation be authorized,” thus “hampering the chances of successful investigation and prosecution.” It also noted “the need for the Court to use its resources prioritizing activities that would have better chances to succeed.”
And, yet, the Administration celebrated with a stern warning:
In an extraordinary statement this afternoon, the White House made clear that it will act to protect not only our own GIs. Israeli and allied personnel, will be protected as well. “Any attempt to target American, Israeli, or allied personnel for prosecution,” it said, “will be met with a swift and vigorous response.” The doctrine reflects the fact that our GIs are under the jurisdiction of our own juridical authorities.
Finally, an American president who is willing to stand up to the anti-American Eurotrash running the so-called “international community.”
