President Trump Hosts Governors and Talks Gun Safety

The President held a meeting on gun safety with his Cabinet and a group of Governors on Monday.

One of the most important moments came when he told the gathered Governors that the NRA was “with them” on stronger background checks.

“There was a time when anybody could have, even if they were sick. I said fellas, we can’t do it anymore. There is no bigger fan of the Second Amendment than me, and of the NRA, and these guys are great patriots. They’re great people, and they want to do something. They’ve gotta do something. And they’re going to do it, I think, quickly. We don’t want sick people having the right to have a gun…”

“Don’t worry about the NRA. They’re on our side.”

Trump also told the gathered Governors that the GOP shouldn’t be afraid to fight back against the NRA every once in a while.

“Half of you are so afraid of the NRA. They’re nothing to be afraid of. And you know what, if they’re not with you, you have to fight them once in a while…”

The President also noted that the NRA thought they were doing what was right in the defense of the 2nd Amendment, but…

“They are doing what they think is right, but sometimes we’re going to have to be very tough and fight them. We need strong background checks.”
