Rep. Nunes: There Is Evidence to Bring Criminal Conspiracy Charges Against James Comey

Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), the ranking member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, is now saying that there is more than enough evidence to press criminal charges against disgraced former FBI chief James Comey.

Nunes told Breitbart News on Sunday that the Department of Justice (DOJ) Inspector General (IG) report on Comey, and the DOJ’s decision not to press charge, does not mean Comey is safe from prosecution.

Nunes said that Comey, who President Donald Trump fired as FBI director in the first few months of his presidency sparking the launch of the now-completed Special Counsel investigation, could still face charges on a criminal conspiracy from the U.S. Attorney in Connecticut.

Last week, the DOJ released a report admonishing Comey for breaking FBI policies by keeping secret memos of his meetings with President Trump instead of turning them in. It was also determined that he leaked classified material.

Despite all that, the DOJ announced that it was not going to prosecute Comey for the violations.

But Nunes points out that nothing is over… yet.

Nunes said in his exclusive interview on Breitbart News Sunday on SiriusXM 125 the Patriot Channel that despite the DOJ’s decision not to bring charges against Comey now, if the U.S. Attorney in Connecticut—who has been charged with investigating the origins of the Russia hoax investigation—follows a criminal referral made by House Intelligence Committee Republicans on the lines of a criminal conspiracy, Comey could face charges in that lane.

“I always remind people that the Inspector General does not have a lot of power because they cannot—they don’t have subpoena power,” Nunes said. “They can only interview people who work for the actual agency, unless people will voluntarily be interviewed, which is not likely. So, I think the Inspector General did us a favor here because the House Intelligence Committee Republicans—we sent over referrals to the Department of Justice based on conspiracy. So now there is no question, one thing the Inspector General made clear by all the interviews and evidence that he gathered is that Comey is definitely part of the conspiracy.”

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich also pointed out some facts about all this:

“With everything we’re learning from the inspector general‘s report, how is it conceivable that the attorney general and the president didn’t know about it?” asked Gingrich. “So, part 1 is to go back and look at 2015, 2016, and ask, given what a hands-on and dynamic president that Barack Obama was, do you really believe all these things happened and the attorney general and the president didn’t know it?”

He continued, “Part 2 … there’s a story that the woman who tried to bribe her son into a university, that she and her husband got caught, that they’re now facing 40 years in jail. Now, how can we not prosecute Comey? How can we not prosecute McCabe? How can we say that they’ve done all the terrible things that the inspector general said they did, but they’re somehow above the law? People are not going to have any faith in the system until people who are guilty are prosecuted and are treated like everybody else. People are not going to have any faith in the system. … It’s clear that no matter how bad they were, the fix is in and they’re not going to be prosecuted.”

Let’s hope something is done about this smug, un-American Comey. He deserves to be in jail.
