If you happen to be walking through the halls of Congress this week and you see a slippery-looking, crablike creature scuttling from pillar to pillar to avoid detection, don’t be alarmed.
It’s just Sen. Mitch McConnell dodging questions about his role in blocking Sens. Ted Cruz and Mike Lee’s challenge to President Obama’s executive granting of amnesty.
House Speaker John Boehner, too, is keeping to the shadows after the massive betrayal of the American people he, McConnell and other Republican luminaries engineered over the weekend.
The first stab came from Boehner, who not only lied to his own party members to win votes for the $1.1 trillion spending bill that gave President Obama a big pass on his unlawful use of executive orders and other behavior. Simultaneously, Boehner maneuvered House members into a merely symbolic vote in protest of Obama’s illegal amnesty.
McConnell completed the job in the Senate when Cruz and Lee entered a point of order that the spending bill was unconstitutional because it allows Obama to enact his executive amnesty.
That should have required the Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to either rule for the point of order or else explain on the record why assuming authority not granted to the president under the Constitution and completely going around Congress is legal.
That Reid and the Democrats would ignore the constitutional issue was a given, but McConnell led a contingent of 20 Republicans who joined in crushing Cruz and Lee’s effort to bring amnesty to a vote.
Just to rub some salt into Cruz’s wounds, Reid then decided to make the Senate work over the weekend on some of Obama’s court appointments so the Democrats and RINOs could have the privilege of claiming Cruz helped Obama.
Now that Americans are realizing they’ve been bamboozled by the leaders of the party they just voted into power in the Senate, the pack of Benedict Arnolds who made it possible are making themselves scarce.
“I’m not going to go back and rehash the events of the last few days,” McConnell said. “You all have all written about them, you know exactly what happened over the weekend. We are where we are and I’m hoping we’ll wrap it up today or tomorrow.”
There’s a rumor going around that Boehner only worked with Obama because the NSA has some dirt to blackmail him with. There’s another rumor going around that Boehner’s office is encouraging such talk just to get some of the pressure off of him.
So while Boehner and the rest of the scoundrels in the GOP leadership club negotiate to scrub Nancy Pelosi’s floors in exchange for the votes she can bring to the House, Americans who thought electing a bunch of real conservatives would lead to a new era of enlightened — or at least slightly less absurd — government are being left out.
The bloody stain on the Senate floor, far from being where Caesar died and the Republic was redeemed, marks the place where the RINOs killed America’s hopes for a better tomorrow.
