A young Boston woman who got hired by the United Parcel Service just prior to Christmas lost her entire first check when the union absconded with it claiming she owed them for “union dues.”
Once again, we see that unionism is inherently un-American.
Sheila O’Malley of Charlestown was excited to get her very first check from UPS after working 41 hours, most of them on the overnight shifts. But when she opened the envelope with her check in it she found it added up to a miniscule $14.52 for her entire week’s work.
Nearly $500 was removed from her check by the local Teamsters union for so-called “dues.”
This was a surprise to her and the other new employees because they had signed a note promising to allow the union to deduct only $32 each check until the dues were paid. But, the money hungry, uncaring union had other plans and took the entire $500 in one lump sum.

Sheila assumed it was a mistake and the money would be refunded. In part, because Sheila, like other thousands of other seasonal part time UPS workers, signed an agreement to pay the $500 Teamsters union initiation fee in $32.00 weekly installments. But UPS told her it wasn’t a mistake. A spokesperson for UPS told the I-Team, “Local 25 reversed this long standing practice by rescinding this policy.”
For the new hires, that meant the balance of the union initiation fees and dues would be deducted in one lump sum. For Sheila, that was $490.00- nearly her entire week’s pay.
“I cried and tried to plead my case with them. But there was no wiggle room. He [union representative] said ‘You’re a part of the union now and you won’t have to worry about that coming out of your check,’” Sheila told the CBS reporter.
“Financially it was crippling. It seemed like a few hundred dollars but that money was already spent and then we didn’t have it,” Sheila added.
Fortunately, because of the notoriety these union thugs earned from the on TV segment about the incident, the union has decided to stop its ignorant deduction and obey the payment plan option it agreed to in the first place, the plan that the employees signed.
But the fact is, these employees don’t get any use out of the union, anyway. Union fatcats only care about getting their 30 pieces of silver and they don’t care about the employees.
After all, every union thug continues getting paid for his union “work” even when his employees are on strike and suffering.
