Comedian Roseanne Barr just blamed former first lady Michelle Obama for getting her fired from her hit ABC TV show.
“The hit reboot of Roseanne was famously canceled in May 2018 after Barr, 66, posted a series of allegedly racist, Islamophobic and anti-Semitic tweets, including one saying that former President Barack Obama aide Valerie Jarrett to someone from “Planet of the Apes” and the Islamic Brotherhood,” Fox News reminded readers.
You’ll remember that Barr quickly apologized for the tweet at the time and insisted that she did not really know who Jarrett was and what her history is.
But now, Barr is claiming that Obama was one of reasons she got fired.
“She said, ‘This tweet is unforgivable.’ That’s what I was told and I tend to believe it because the woman who fired me is now working with the Obamas at Netflix,” Barr fumed to The Sunday Times (via The Sun). Barr appeared to be referring to Channing Dungey, the former ABC Entertainment president responsible for canceling “Roseanne.” Netflix hired her late last year to work on original programming, including content from the Obamas’ Higher Ground Productions.
Barr’s new thoughts seem to have came after she was told that the Obama’s were extremely upset at the anti-Jarrett tweet.
Barr was originally quiescent over letting the cast use her creations to continue the series as The Conners after she was fired.
But it looks like those good feelings are waning. Now she is becoming increasingly upset that her creation is being “stolen” from her.
“They think because they killed me it’s OK to use me, use the memory of me,” Barr said last weekend. “Still mention me. It’s still my show, but they stole it. They are going to do it to other comics. I’m just the first.”
Personally, I’d love to see her sue ABC into non-existence.
Maybe she is starting to warm up to that!
