‘Sanctuary’ County Rolls Back Anti-ICE Rules After String of Immigrants Charged with Rape

A “sanctuary” county in Maryland has begun rolling back its rules preventing police from cooperating with federal immigration officials after more than a dozen illegal aliens have been arrested and charged with serial rapes.

Montgomery County, Maryland, Executive Marc Elrich was forced to begin altering previous rules preventing the county’s police officers from reporting illegal aliens to federal authorities.

On Monday, Elrich took action to roll back at least one of the former restrictions meant to shield illegal alien criminals from federal authorities.

The rule preventing ICE agents from entering the county’s prisons was scrapped, according to ABC 7 News.

A county official told ABC 7 that correctional officers have been ordered to give ICE agents clearance to “identified areas” of the county jail to “ensure that transfers are conducted in a safe environment.”

This new rule comes only three months after Elrich made a big deal out of signing an order that prevented his officers from working with ICE at all.

Only in July, Elrich signed his “The Promoting Community Trust Executive Order,” which barred police from asking a suspect about immigration status and also prohibited officers from cooperating with ICE agents. Montgomery County had already set rules refusing to honor ICE detainer requests, and the new order was the latest sanctuary measure enacted by the anti-Trump, hardcore left-wing county.

This summer, Elrich insisted that his department could not cooperate with ICE unless detainers came with a judicial warrant. But federal officials lambasted that claim as false.

“The public has been misled to believe that certain judges have the authority to sign a warrant for civil immigration violations — but no such judicial authority exists,” an ICE spokesperson said. “This idea is a myth created by those who either oppose immigration enforcement efforts, are misinformed, or who do not understand how the immigration system works.”

But Elrich has since become a reviled figure for his left-wing policies after one illegal alien after another was arrested for serial rapes, often of little girls.

Over the last several months, nearly a dozen illegals have been arrested and charged with serial rapes.

Clearly sanctuary policies put citizens in danger. Maybe Montgomery County is getting a wake up call?
