More School Districts Trashing Michelle Obama’s Healthy Lunch Program

Michelle Obama does not hold any elected office. Therefore, she has no legal authority to institute any type of legislation. Yet in 2010 when the Democrats controlled both the House and Senate, Michelle Obama used her position as First Lady to push her personal health agenda through Congress so as to impose it on all of America. With the passage of Public Law 111-296, otherwise known as Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, she assumed the role of the school lunch police czar. Incidentally, the bill became law on Dec. 13, 2010, after Democrats knew they lost control of the House, but before the House GOP freshman were sworn in.

But like so many of the policies of her husband, Michelle’s school lunch law has been a completely disaster and failure. Schools districts all over the country are having to spend more for the healthier foods and then the kids refuse to eat the stuff and just throw it away. The end result is that schools can’t afford to meet the requirements of the lunch law and more kids than ever are going hungry because they won’t eat it.

Earlier this month the Muskego-Norway school district, located southwest of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, announced that they were opting out of the healthy school lunch program. School Board President Rick Petfalski told the local media:

“We believe that proper food nutrition and meal portion guidelines are best decided at a local level.”

“By leaving the program we will not be required to follow these onerous guidelines, pushed by and large by Michelle Obama, who last I checked, has been elected by no one.”

Now Nicolet High School in the Glendale school district, north of Milwaukee has announced they too are withdrawing from the school lunch program. School district manager Jeff Dellutri explained that district has lost over $10,000 by being forced to comply with Michelle Obama’s lunch program. He told the local media:

“We thought it would be a financial disaster for us this year with the full implementation (of the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act).” reported on the district’s decision:

“Healthy foods are required under the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act, which will be fully implemented this year. But Vicky Hanson, the district’s food service director, said foods like black beans, kale and whole grains just end up in the trash at the end of the lunch hour.”

“‘We put it out, but they just don’t take it,’ she said. ‘It’s always in the trash.’”

Socialist politicians believe that they have the right to dictate their personal desires and agendas on the general public. The Obamas have been doing so since Barack was first sworn in as America’s first illegal president. Former New York Michael Bloomberg did the same thing when he was still mayor of the Big Apple. He tried to restrict beverage sizes, junk food and even hospital use of pain killers. Now Bloomberg is spending millions of dollars to push his personal hatred of the Second Amendment rights to own and bear firearms.

The healthy school lunch program is just another example of socialist dictatorial power over the masses and I’m thrilled that more and more school districts are rebelling against it and telling Michelle Obama to mind her own business.
