The failed leftist mayor of Seattle is so rattled by a recall campaign that she is demanding that the state Supreme Court put an end to the effort to oust her.
Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan filed a petition Monday demanding that the state’s highest court end the recall effort launched against her for allowing the city to become a fireball of protests and criminal activity.
Durkan argued in her filing that since she didn’t violate any laws, the recall effort is illegitimate.
Per Fox News:
Her argument reprises some of the arguments she made in King County Superior Court, where a judge ruled that the recall effort could move forward, but also adds some new ones.
“Following the most widespread civil unrest Seattle has seen in decades, Petitioners submitted, and the trial court approved, a charge that Mayor Durkan ‘failed to institute new policies and safety measures for the Seattle Police Department’ with regard to the use of chemical crowd control measures,” Durkan’s attorneys, Rebecca Roe and William Shaw, write in the appeal. “Remarkably, neither Petitioners nor the trial court identified the particular ‘policies and safety measures’ Mayor Durkan had a duty to implement, but failed to enact.”
Durkan added that if the recall effort works, it will “chill the discretionary authority of public officials across the political spectrum.”
The court announced that it will take the mayor’s filing and discuss the case in private. There will be no open court hearing at this time.
If the court denies Durkan’s petition to end the recall, those pushing the campaign will have 180 days to get 50,000 signatures for the question of a recall to appear on next year’s ballot.
