Sheriff Joe Arpaio Defies DOJ and Expands Investigation of Obama Birth Certificate

Ever since Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio announced his Cold Case Posse investigation into the eligibility of Barack Obama to serve as President of the United States, the Department of Justice has been attacking him in any way possible.  They charged him and his department with racial profiling crimes against Hispanics and stripped them of their federal immigration law enforcement powers.

When the DOJ charges against Sheriff Joe failed to stop him from releasing the findings of the investigation, which revealed substantial evidence to indicate the White House released birth certificate is a forgery, the DOJ stepped up their attack by trying to strip Arpaio of his power as county sheriff.  They demanded that he submit to a supposedly independent monitor to oversee all of the county sheriff’s operations.

According to sources inside the Department of Justice, the use of the independent monitor was a necessary part of their proposed negotiations with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department to avoid a lawsuit.  Arpaio saw this not as an attempt to negotiate but as a deliberate act for his department to be taken over by the Obama administration and thus thwart his efforts.

In response to the DOJ’s demand for a monitor, Arpaio stated,

“None of us agreed to allow a federal monitor to come remove my authority as the elected sheriff of Maricopa County.  I feel that turning my office over to the federal government would be a dereliction of my duty.”

Just yesterday afternoon, he told Fox News anchor woman Megyn Kelly,

“First of all, I’m the elected, constitutional, legitimate sheriff.  I report to 4 million people in this county, and I’m not going to be controlled by the federal government because they don’t like the way I enforce the illegal-immigration laws. And it’s really interesting they’re cracking down right now. I presume we’re in an election year. You know this started three and a half years ago, 100 days after Obama took office, they went after me. I’m their poster boy.”

When Kelly continued to press Arpaio about the breakdown in the negotiation with the DOJ, she said,

“They (federal officials) seem to be suggesting the thing that is making the negotiations breakdown is your – this is their characterization – your sudden objection having this independent monitor, something that you hadn’t objected to before, so they think it’s you who’s making the conflict come to a head right now.”

To which Arpaio angrily responded,

“That is garbage. That is garbage.  I publicly said in the past I will never give in to a control by the federal government. That is false, which many other statements they make are false. That is not true.”

In January, Arpaio said he would cooperate with the DOJ if they would produce a detailed account to support the alleged charges they made against him.  To date, Arpaio has not received that detailed record of his supposed crimes.

Arpaio’s attorneys say that they are still trying to negotiate with the DOJ officials, but they are not sure what the refusal by Arpaio to accept the independent monitor will do to those negotiations.  They believe that there are still a number of items that can still be negotiated with the feds despite the issue with the independent monitor.

A DOJ spokesman indicated that the Department of Justice believes Arpaio’s refusal to accept the independent monitor has caused a complete breakdown of the negotiations.  They also said that they are ready to file a lawsuit against Arapio.

When Kelly asked Arpaio what he thought would happen now, he replied,

“I don’t know. If we go to court, that’s great. Then we’ll see the true story come out. Quite frankly, I don’t think they want to go to court. They don’t have the evidence, so we’ll see.”

But if the pressures of the Department of Justice were intended to stop Sheriff Joe’s investigation of Obama’s birth certificate, it’s not working.  At the same time that he denies the DOJ demand of an independent monitor of his department, reports are surfacing that tell of his plans to expand his investigation to include the reports of possible criminal activity by the Obama campaign that may have taken place during the 2008 Democratic primaries.  I reported on these allegations a couple days ago.

I’ve always admired Sheriff Joe for his strong stand for law enforcement and refusal to cave in to the demands of liberals over the years.  He refused to release prisoners because of overcrowding.  He erected ‘tent city’ and housed prisoners in old army supply tents set up on the hot asphalt under the desert summer sun.  He worked to stem the theft of prison underwear by dying them all a bright pink.  When the courts told him he had to provide at least one television station for the prisoners, he complied by making it one of the public access channels.  He was ordered to give the prisoners physical activity so he re-instituted working chain gangs and put prisoners to work on the county roads.

Now he is standing up to the liberal Department of Justice and the Obama administration.  Sheriff Joe Arpaio needs our support and our prayers.  I want to encourage you to take a moment to get on your knees and pray for this brave lawman who is standing up against what seems to be the most powerful and corrupt administration in our nation’s history.  Then let him know that you are praying for him.  Prayer is the most powerful tool and weapon we have and the more people that pray for Sheriff Joe, the stronger he will be able to stand.
