Hawaii’s Democrat Representative, Tulsi Gabbard, announced that she is running for the Democrat nomination for president in 2020. But seemingly only hours passed before the gay community rose up in outrage and painting Gabbard as anti-gay for once working with a group that backed gay conversion therapy.
Gabbard told CNN on Friday that she was in the hunt for the White House but her past opposition to the gay lifestyle is already rising up to bite her ambitions.
Unsurprisingly, since Gabbard became Hawaii’s congresswoman, her position on LGBTQ matters began to shift wildly leftward.
This is typical for Democrats. They often start as moderates, but the second they get national ambitions, suddenly they become raving left-wingers. A prime example of this is Al Gore who was 100 percent against abortion when he had statewide ambitions in Tennessee. But when he wanted to go to Washington and then the White House, he suddenly shifted to the left and became a major supporter of abortion.
Al Gore’s views did not really change. His desires for higher office did. Just like Gabbard. She was a moderate once. Now she is a raving liberal because she has higher ambitions. In truth, these Democrats have no principles and they will say anything to grab more power.
In any case, CNN reports that gay groups are already raising the red flag against Gabbard.
During her run for state legislature in 2002, Gabbard told the Honolulu Star-Bulletin, “Working with my father, Mike Gabbard, and others to pass a constitutional amendment to protect traditional marriage, I learned that real leaders are willing to make personal sacrifices for the common good. I will bring that attitude of public service to the legislature.” The quote, which CNN’s KFile found during a review of Gabbard’s early career, shows how closely she aligned herself with her father’s mission at the time.
Gabbard’s father ran The Alliance for Traditional Marriage, a political action committee aimed at opposing pro-gay lawmakers and legislation that organized and spent more than $100,000 to pass an amendment in 1998 that gave the Hawaii state legislature power to “reserve marriage to opposite-sex couples.” The amendment to the state’s constitution passed.
Gabbard was 17 at the time of the vote and cited working with her father and the organization during her run for the state legislature in Hawaii four years later when she was age 21. Gabbard would win her race, becoming the youngest woman elected to the Hawaii state legislature.
CNN added, the Alliance for Traditional Marriage called homosexuality “unhealthy, abnormal behavior that should not be promoted or accepted in society.”
But it isn’t just her father and her work with him long ago that is a problem. She has had these same views more recently.
Tulsi Gabbard herself is quoted in a 2000 press release from The Alliance for Traditional Marriage. In it, she attacks gay rights activists who were opposed to her mother Carol’s bid for the state’s board of education.
“This war of deception and hatred against my mom is being waged by homosexual activists because they know, that if elected, she will not allow them to force their values down the throats of the children in our schools,” Gabbard is quoted as saying.
She is also on record as continuing her anti-gay rhetoric after she became a state representative. So, it isn’t like her anti-gay views were just long ago when she was a youngster.
CNN listed quite a few other examples of Gabbard’s gay rhetoric. Now the left is gearing up into a feeding frenzy. So, yeah, Gabbard has ran afoul of the gay lobby.
