Taylor Swift bows to animal rights activists with stunning cancellation


Taylor Swift is inarguably one of the biggest names in modern music, and her every action has been catalogued by her rapid fans for years.

Such is the reality when it comes to fame.  The praise and the scrutiny arrive in tandem, and those who find themselves with the affliction of celebrity need to make a decision as to which will bear more weight in their minds.

The controversial horse racing event in Australia announced the Grammy winner, 29, would be headlining in early September but revealed on Saturday she pulled out.

The musician’s decision comes after animal rights activists criticized Swift on social media for “endorsing animal abuse” by agreeing to perform.

Why were animal rights groups so adamant about it?

Six horses have died while racing in the Melbourne Cup, including an Irish racehorse that was euthanized on the racetrack last year after breaking its shoulder.

Swift’s team attributed the cancelation to a scheduling snafu that conflicted with her Asian promotion tour, but that didn’t stop animal rights groups from claiming victory.
