Over the weekend, NBC dinosaur Tom Brokaw finally got something right about immigration when he said that Hispanics should do more to integrate into our society… then he was forced to profusely apologize when the left came down on him like an avalanche.
Brokaw was a panelist of NBC’s Sunday talk show, Meet the Press, when the topic of immigration was raised. During the discussion, Brokaw said that Hispanics need to make a better effort to speak English and assimilate into the country.
“I also happen to believe that the Hispanics should work harder at assimilation. That’s one of the things I’ve been saying for a long time,” he said of Spanish-speaking immigrants. “You know, they ought not to be just codified in their communities but make sure that all their kids are learning to speak English, and that they feel comfortable in the communities. And that’s going to take outreach on both sides, frankly.”
For a change, this doddering left-winger got something right. I guess like the blind squirrel he sometimes gets the nut.
Despite being 100 percent correct, liberals immediately exploded in fury that Brokaw dared to criticize these millions of Hispanics who have no interest in becoming Americans.
Naturally, instead of sticking to his guns, Brokaw fell to his knees in abject apology and jumped to Twitter to unleash a torrent of disjointed tweets apologizing for expecting immigrants to become Americans.
Brokaw apologized saying he felt “terrible a part of my comments on Hispanics offended some members of that proud culture.”
In another tweet he added, “I am sorry, truly sorry, my comments were offensive to many. the great enduring American tradition of diversity is to be celebrated and cherished. Yamiche, thank u for your comments. let’s go forward together.”
But there was another part of his comments that Brokaw SHOULD apologize for.
“Also, I hear, when I push people a little harder, ‘Well, I don’t know whether I want brown grandbabies,’” Brokaw said. “I mean, that’s also a part of it.”
Just who the hell is Brokaw hearing this garbage from? We know he doesn’t personally know any Republicans, so he must be talking to leftists. But he coupled that line with talk about how Republicans don’t like seeing so many Hispanics voting for Democrats. And presumably Brokaw was saying that Republicans don’t like “brown grandbabies.”
I hate to make this personal, but this addresses ME and MY family.
I’m a white guy who wants illegal immigration ended, as many illegals as possible deported, and I want the wall built, yet ALL NINE of my grandchildren are “brown babies” born to my sons who married Hispanic women and I love them all and don’t care even a tiny bit of their background.
Just who the hell are you talking about, Brokjaw?
