San Francisco left-winger Nancy Pelosi wants to re-take her position as Speaker of the House of Representatives now that her party has regained control of Congress. And Pelosi just got a surprising supporter when President Donald Trump tweeted out his support for her campaig0n.
On Friday, Trump tweeted, “I can get Nancy Pelosi as many votes as she wants in order for her to be Speaker of the House. She deserves this victory, she has earned it – but there are those in her party who are trying to take it away. She will win!”

So, just what is Trump doing here?
Well, he either really wants her to win and hopes that by being nice it will ease her ability to work with him next year.
Or more likely he understands that Pelosi is so hated that if she becomes speaker it can mean nothing but bad news for the Democrat Party and will energize the Republican resistance to her rule.
Trump also added the hash tag #TomReedCongress. He did this because Reed (R, NY) had proposed that she could get some Republicans to vote for her if she changes some rules to give more power to rank-and-file House members.
Pelosi immediately rejected this idea saying that she intended to win her next speakership on the strength of Democrat votes alone.
Trump brought up his support for Pelosi again during some brief comments on the White House South lawn.
“I would help Nancy Pelosi if she would need some votes. I would perform a wonderful service for her. I like her. Can you believe it? I like Nancy Pelosi,” Trump toldwill not support Pelosi to take the speaker’s chair again.
It remains to be seen, though, if this intransigence is wide spread enough to defeat Pelosi’s bid to re-take the role of leadership.
Still, most don’t feel she has nearly enough opposition to dash her aspirations.
