P.J. O’Rourke said, “If you think health care is expensive now, wait until you see what it costs when it’s free.” When all the liberals were chanting that health care is a right, what they meant was that the government should mandate it, and if you couldn’t afford it, they should penalize you with a huge tax to punish you for not complying. How’s that for “free” health care? How’s that for “free” country? They’re going to force us to pay for a government-approved “product” that we may or may not want or be able to afford, and if we don’t purchase it, they’ll force us at gunpoint to pay off the IRS for our non-compliance. Whatever happened to “my body, my choice?” Oh, that’s right. That only applies to women who want to murder their unborn kids.
But it’s all about the providing for the poor, right? And the children. Those of us who don’t support Obamacare want all the poor kids and elderly people to die in the streets, remember? Well, it looks like that’s going to be happening a lot more in the coming years as more people are forced to pay for things under Obamacare that they can’t afford. And the especially expensive coverage for smokers and those deemed obese by the government will force many others to literally die on the street. But it’s OK when liberals are responsible for people’s deaths. They’re only doing it for the greater good. Weeding out the weaklings, if you will.
In the IRS’s final regulations regarding Obamacare, they used examples of families of 4 and families of 5 to demonstrate how the penalties will be applied. In their examples, they assumed the cheapest health care plan in 2016 would cost an average of $20,000 a year. CNS News reported:
“The annual national average bronze plan premium for a family of 5 (2 adults, 3 children) is $20,000,” the regulation says. Bronze will be the lowest tier health-insurance plan available under Obamacare–after Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Under the law, the penalty for not buying health insurance is supposed to be capped at either the annual average Bronze premium, 2.5 percent of taxable income, or $2,085.00 per family in 2016.”
And starting next year, parents who can’t afford to pay for expensive health care (even the cheap $20,000 per year plan) will be required to pay the IRS federal fines for each of their uninsured kids. For 2014, the per-child penalty will be $47.50 up to a $285 cap. In 2015, it’ll be $162.50 per child up to a $975 cap, and in 2016, $347.50 per child up to $2,085. In the years following 2016, the $2,085 cap will rise with inflation.
The IRS will impose whichever is greater: the per-child penalty listed above or 2.5% of taxable income. Poorer families will be stuck with the per-child penalty, and wealthier families who don’t purchase a government-approved health care plan will be taxed at 2.5% of their taxable income.
This is what “liberal compassion” looks like. And we know what the Bible says about that: “The compassion of the wicked is cruel” (Proverbs 12:10).
