When you are in an unfamiliar place, you’re more alert then usual because you do not know where you are or what could happen.
When you are in familiar territory, you need to stay alert then as well. You never know when you are going to pull up to a drive-thru for a burger and get ambushed by an armed burglar.
As you see in the video below, that is exactly what happened. An armed intruder walked up to a vehicle ordering food and immediately pulls a gun. Unluckily for the perp, his randomly selected target was an off-duty officer and licensed carrier.
Guess who got dominated in that situation? Not the cop!
Although we cannot see clearly what is happening because of the camera angle, we do however see that the victim manages to fire his handgun into the robber and drops him, also putting several more shots into the crook lying faced-down on the ground , all while still in his vehicle.
After the robber is shot and on the ground, the officer gets out, takes in what is happening, takes the guns so that the thug can’t shoot him, and then scans the area to see if anything else is going on.
Self and situational awareness is very important, even when you believe yourself to be in a “safe” place, as we learned from this particular video…there really is no “safe place” in public. One very important rule if you are a civilian who carries a concealed firearm, never, ever draw your weapon unless your life (or that of your loved-ones), is in mortal danger.
Here is the wild video:
