Hillary Clinton’s campaign theme should be, “When it rains, it pours”.
Mrs. Clinton has been having a rough year, and while the last few months haven’t been great, the next few months may be even more trying for her. While we on the right have always held Mrs. Clinton in the lowest esteem, she has generally been able to count on the support of her friends on the left. That may not no longer be true.
Over the last few months Clinton has suffered from unforced error after unforced error, and her former allies may be tiring of watching her fall flat on her face because of her own pride and foolishness. The best example of how far she’s fallen may have appeared during a recent CNN interview that Vice President Joe Biden sat down for. During the conversation with CNN’s Gloria Borger, Biden praised Clinton’s primary competition Bernie Sanders, but then refused to offer any kind words for Mrs. Clinton!
Joe Biden: If Bernie Sanders had never said he was a “Democratic Socialist,” based on what he is saying, people would not be calling him that. That’s how he characterizes himself –in sort of European terms– like the Democratic-socialist parties in Europe.
Gloria Borger: But why is [Clinton] having trouble [beating him]?
Joe Biden: Bernie is speaking to a yearning that is deep and real, and he has credibility on it. And that is the absolutely enormous concentration of wealth in a small group of people with the middle class being left out…
Gloria Borger: But Hillary is talking about that as well?
Joe Biden: Well, it is relatively new for Hillary to talk about that. Hillary’s focus has been on other things up until now, and it has been Bernie’s –no one questions Bernie’s authneticity on these issues.
Gloria Borger: And they question [Hillary’s]?
Joe Biden: They question everyone who hasn’t been talking about it all along.
Ouch. I’d bet that Hillary is fuming right about now.
