The video of a spot of levity performed on the mean streets of the Big Apple by a New York City police officer is now going viral.
The video of NYPD officer Richard Gunther singing over his car loudspeaker right in the middle of the street warmed the hearts of many New Yorkers on Saturday, but unbeknownst to the officer, someone recorded the performance and sent it to Instagram.
As Instagram user Jordan Haskins noted, “The NYPD absolutely nailed it today. So cool to see the humanity in our law enforcement. A small thing like this can really give you some hope in such uncertain times.”

In the amusing video, officer Gunther can be seen singing the Backstreet Boys tune, “I Want It That Way,” over his car loudspeaker.
As he croons the tune, bystanders gather to smile, laugh, and sing along with the officer.
Gunther’s partner, officer Bill Hunz, can be seen sitting in the passenger seat laughing along with his partner’s audience.
Once Gunther finishes his mini concert, he says “thanks everyone, have a good day,” over the speaker.
One female bystander can be heard presciently saying, “that will go viral for sure.”
The incident happened last Saturday, but by Wednesday the video did, indeed, start going viral. Once officer Gunther realized his song was growing, he reportedly said, “I’m so glad I can entertain everyone. Feels great interacting with the community and seeing all the smile/laughs! You guys are the best!”
Officer Hunz also chimed in saying, “Thanks for the laughs today Rich. No other person I’d rather ride around with all day.”
