Dan Savage is a nationally known anti-bullying activist who supposedly has reached over 40 million viewers with his videos and website. Dan and his husband have been guests at the White House and his contributors include a number of well-known actors and actresses. Probably the most famous contributor to Dan Savage’s anti-bullying campaign is none other than President Barack Obama.
In one of Savage’s latest public appearances, he took the stage at the Journalism Education Association and the National Scholastic Press Association High School Conference held Seattle, Washington on April 12-15. Several thousand high school students and adults were in attendance at the Washington State Convention Center when Dan Savage took the stage in what everyone expected to be an anti-bullying message.
However, instead of the anticipated speech, Savage went on a vocal tirade against Christians and the Bible. The verbal lambasting became so vulgar and hate filled that several hundred student’s walked out of the talk. Sadly, he also received a number of positive applauses.
Savage opened up by saying,
“The Bible. We’ll just talk about the Bible for a second. People often point out that they can’t help it — they can’t help with the anti-gay bullying, because it says right there in Leviticus, it says right there in Timothy, it says right there in Romans, that being gay is wrong.
We can learn to ignore the bulls**t in the Bible about gay people. The same way, the same way we have learned to ignore the bulls**t in the Bible about shellfish, about slavery, about dinner, about farming, about menstruation, about virginity, about masturbation. We ignore bulls**t in the Bible about all sorts of things. The Bible is a radically pro-slavery document. Slave owners waved Bibles over their heads during the Civil War and justified it. The shortest book in the New Testament is a letter from Paul to a Christian slave owner about owning his Christian slave. And Paul doesn’t say ‘Christians don’t own people.’ Paul talks about how Christians own people.”
And ended his tirade with,
“Um, one other thing I wanna talk about is — [chuckles] — so, you can tell the Bible guys in the hall that they can come back now, because I’m done beating up the Bible. It’s funny, as someone who’s on the receiving end of beatings that are justified by the Bible, how pansy-assed some people react when you push back.
I apologize if I hurt anyone’s feelings. But. I have a right to defend myself. And to point out the hypocrisy of people who justify anti-gay bigotry by pointing to the Bible, and insisting we must live by the code of Leviticus on this one issue and no other.”
If you have the stomach, here is a video of Savage’s talk, but before you watch and listen I must warn you that he used profanity in his talk.
I want all of you to take note of Dan Savage’s typical hypocrisy when it comes to bullying. According to him and most other anti-bullying activists today, a Christian is not allowed to express his/her belief that homosexuality is a sin. If they do, it is considered bullying and hate language. But someone like Savage will get on stage in front of several thousand people and berate Christians all he wants and this is perfectly acceptable.
Savage’s example is proof that gay activists are NOT seeking equality. They are demanding preferential treatment above and beyond what others have. They are demanding to have the right to say anything they want against anyone that disagrees with them while at the same time they want legal protection from anyone saying anything against them and their lifestyle. And since they are the ones screaming the loudest, they will probably get what they seek, especially considering that they have the support of White House, which someday may become the Rainbow House.
