Just how Machiavellian are the people at the White House when the president is considering effectively erasing our immigration laws with an executive order, but before he does so, his advisers hold press conferences touting the idea that granting amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants will lead to the increased likelihood of Republicans wanting to impeach President Obama?
This is twisted.
Normal, moral people would be embarrassed to work for a president who knows his plan for amnesty by executive order is so illegal that it will lead to a push for impeachment but who plans to proceed nonetheless.
But apparently, when guys like presidential adviser Dan Pfeiffer say that trouble is in the air, it’s not only an attempt to deflate some of the growing impeachment movement, it’s a downright “good thing.”
“The president acting on immigration reform will certainly up the likelihood that [Republicans] would contemplate impeachment at some point,” said Pfeiffer, according to the Christian Science Monitor.
Many Democrats, in fact, seem to think that all the impeachment talk going around will benefit them. The thinking, if you can call it that, is that the shadow of impeachment will rally the troops and even bring some of the disaffected back into the fold, to circle the wagons around the president.
Some of the talk has been stirred by House Speaker John Boehner’s lawsuit against Obama for violating the Constitution with his abuse of executive orders.
But Boehner has rejected impeachment proceedings for a very clear reason: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
Impeachments start in the House, which brings the charges, but they are tried in the Senate, and as long as Democrats own the Senate, there effectively is no impeachment remedy because the issue would be buried the moment it arrived in the Senate chambers.
Those facts are what led Boehner to file a lawsuit, which is the only remedy left to the American people, short of a coup.
“This is a fundraising exercise for Democrats,” said Boehner spokesman Michael Steel. “It is telling, and sad, that a senior White House official is focused on political games, rather than helping these kids and securing the border.”
Since the current border crisis is the result largely of Obama’s executive order two years ago giving the children of illegal immigrants — so-called DREAMers — amnesty from deportation, a logical person might think that the president would lay low on the issue. But never waste a good crisis is the motto of this White House, so the line coming from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue is that the chaos and crisis caused by King Putt has raised awareness of immigration and increased the “urgency” the public feels about fixing the problem, which gives Obama “broad permission” to do as he pleases, Pfeiffer said.
Blaming Congress yet again for the president’s blatant lawlessness is just par for the course for this Administration, which now openly ignores congressional subpoenas and other matters, and claims legal immunity for advisers like David Simas.
Impeachment is off the table unless the Senate is turned over to Republicans and the House stays in GOP hands in the next election. It should be a transition that is easy to sell to the American people, but Democrats have high skills in election rigging, so certainty would be foolish. Until the GOP can take both chambers, the best option is Boehner’s lawsuit, which still needs to be voted on by the House.
The option that lurks in the shadows, however, is bloody revolution. It may yet come to that if Congress can’t or won’t take back its power and restore our Constitution before Obama destroys our country.
