Will China take Advantage of Weakened and ‘Insipid’ Obama?

Obama will be making his first post-election international trip next week. Reports are that his travels include a stop in China, Myanmar (Burma), and Australia. Apparently he is headed over to discuss policy between the United States and the Asia Pacific region.

He will be focusing on the world economy of which China will soon become the leader.

Okay, that’s nothing out of the ordinary – President Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping, two of the world’s most powerful leaders, are getting together.

What is out of the ordinary is an editorial, just published in the state-run Global Times. For those unfamiliar with the Global Times, it’s the mouthpiece, or propaganda arm of the Communist Chinese government. In other words, nothing gets printed or released by the Times without the approval of Xi Jinping and his Politburo.

It’s basically the same arrangement that the Obama administration has with The New York Times. They may not formally approve releases, but since everyone at The New York Times and the Global Times are of like mind, both governments feel safe.

So, I’m sure Obama was taken aback when the Global Times editorial wrote of Obama as a “lame duck.” The Global Times continued by describing him as “insipid” and that the U.S. voters are sick of Obama’s “banality.”

The Global Times’ editorial read: “Obama always utters ‘Yes, we can,’ which led to the high expectations people had for him. But he has done an insipid job, offering nearly nothing to his supporters.” Remember, this scathing review comes indirectly (or directly) from the Chinese government.

Of Obama’s foreign policy failures they wrote that he took “U.S. troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan, but left no peace. Osama bin Laden was killed during his tenure, but the IS [Islamic State] has emerged from the Middle East.”

They continued: “Obama’s best performance is empty rhetoric” and, “Bush, who dared to do everything,” while, “Obama, who dares to do nothing.”

It would be of little consequence or concern to Obama if this was simply an independent journal, but this is a Chinese State publication. It could be no worse if the Chinese president penned it himself. And for all we know, he did.

So here we are, with two years left of Obama and one of our greatest rivals, China, thinks our president is a joke. And this criticism isn’t something we as Americans can take pride in – not like when Reagan or Bush were called cowboys, meaning they were tough Americans, that despite their hatred for them, the rest of the world knew who was in charge and to tread lightly.

No, these comments described an uninterested, incompetent buffoon.

I don’t know what China’s endgame is, but the release of this editorial so close to Obama’s visit and meeting with Xi Jinping was no coincidence and no accident.
