Yemen is in Chaos — but the Obama Administration still Sees them as a Good “Model”

Count ABC’s Jon Karl as “astounded” as we are that the Obama administration is thick-headed and obtuse enough to actually still consider Yemen a viable model for counter-terrorism, even now, as the country collapses into multi-faction civil war.

In fact, two of the factions battling over control of the nation of Yemen are Al Qaeda terrorists and ISIS terrorists! The other faction is a group of extremists who are funded, trained and supported by the Iranian government! If any of these three factions win, which is growing more and more likely as now the official-US backed government has fled the country, it can only be bad for the USA.

But don’t tell that to the Obama team. They think Yemen is a ‘model’ for dealing with counter-terrorism in the Middle East.

ABC’s Jon Karl: “Now that we have, essentially, complete chaos in Yemen, does the White House still believe that Yemen is the model for counter-terrorism strategy?”

White House Spokesman Josh Earnest: “The White House does continue to believe that a successful counter-terrorism strategy is one that will build up the capacity of the central government to have local fighters on the ground to take the fight to extremists in their own country. That is a template that has succeeded in mitigating the threat that we face from extremists in place like Yemen and Somalia.”

Jon Karl: “That’s astounding to hear. You still see Yemen as a model? Building up a central government — a central government that has now collapsed? A president who has apparently fled the country? Saudi troops amassing on one border? The Iranians supporting the rebels? You consider this a model?”

If Yemen is the model for how to deal with terrorism in the Middle East… I’d hate to see what happens when things go “wrong.”
